Training for personnel working with isocyanates is mandatory.

Since 24 August 2023, industrial or professional use of products containing diisocyanates is permitted only to persons who have successfully completed adequate training. The obligation to document that training rests with the employer.

Consequences of not meeting the obligation

Three situations we encounter most frequently in practice.

The liability rests with the employer

The employer documents each worker’s training and presents the evidence at inspection. The product supplier provides the training material only; the training obligation is not transferable to them.

Occupational sensitisation is irreversible

Once sensitisation to isocyanates has developed, minimal exposure triggers an asthma attack. The worker can no longer be assigned to activities involving these products.

Proof of training conditions the sign-off of works

A growing number of clients request the document before signing off completed works. Its absence may delay payment or hold up performance of the contract.

What the programme includes

A 16-hour programme delivered over two days, with the theory covered online at each participant’s own pace, and an examination at the end.

A directly applicable EU requirementThe obligation derives from a European Union regulation, applicable in every member state without national transposition. The training meets the requirement across the Union.
Five-year validityThe renewal period set by the REACH Regulation. We give advance notice of expiry.
Training in Romanian and EnglishRelevant for mixed crews or for personnel posted outside the country.
The trainer is named on the documentThe certificate carries the trainer’s signature, in line with the requirement that training be delivered by an expert in occupational safety and health.
Participant records and exam retakeA progress panel for each group. Re-examination is included at no additional cost.
